A Successful Event Held: Singapore Logistics and Crane Carnival 2023

On 30th September 2023, the Singapore Logistics and Crane Carnival 2023 got off to a successful start at the Trade Association Hub. Did you manage to join us there?

CDAS President Mr. Ricky Loo joined the welcome party to receive and meet with Guest-of-Honour, Minister of State, Prime Minister Office, Deputy Secretary-General, NTUC , Mr. Desmond Tan. Over the course of their tour and engagement session, Mr. Loo shared with DSG Mr. Tan on the various CDAS initiatives, such as how we piloted the industry’s first cashless payment system, which helped reduce the reliance on cash payments made by hauliers at the container depots. This has led to smoother flowthrough at the container depots and has helped both the depot and hauliers reduce their operational costs. It also contributed towards reducing resources and time wastage, and aided the industry’s safe distancing measures during the COVID-19 pandemic, while the logistics sector powered on as an essential service.

Mr. Loo also shared about our latest initiative, the Container Tracking System (CTR), introduced to meet the needs of transporters to tackle the shortage of manpower and resource with the use of technologies for working remotely. CTR is a comprehensive suite of solutions that helps to tackle the ongoing problem faced by hauliers of tracking and managing their assets, providing them with the means to satisfy their daily haulage operational needs. With CTR, hauliers will rely less on manual intervention and traditional communication methods with their drivers, and thus improve their operational efficiency and customer service levels. They will be able to automate and digitalize keeping tabs on their fleet and trailer assets, and optimize their use through leasing them out on the pooling platform, thus both reducing wastage and their carbon footprint. In addition, CTR will also address the impending geospatial tracking needs by the industry, as companies expand vertically in land-scarce Singapore.

All in all, it is the initiatives we work hard in rolling out such as CTR, that help transform the container logistics and transportation industry, helping them to keep up with the ever-changing economic landscape, through adopting modern technologies to strengthen their core services and provide better logistics services through improved efficiency and readily available information updates. These efforts will help further uplift the image of the logistics industry, and help attract much needed younger talent.

CDAS will continue working together with all stakeholders to further strengthen the container logistics industry and bring it towards greater heights in the new frontier.

Organized by the SINGAPORE CRANE ASSOCIATION (SCA), together with co-organisers, the Singapore Logistics Association (SLA), Singapore Transport Association (STA) and Container Depot and Logistics Association (Singapore) – CDAS, with the support of the Workplace Safety and Health Council and e2i, Employment & Employability Institute, the event aimed to raise awareness on the industrial developments of the logistics and crane operations, showcase the professionalism and career pathways and highlight the importance of WSH in these industries.
The event saw attendees from in-service professionals, mid-career switches, aspiring students and family of industry workers who came to enjoy the numerous fringe activities , got to understand on the latest technological and solutions available for the industry, as well as look up possible employment opportunities.
